Sujit Choudhry, expert on constitutional law and politics is helping Ukraine

Sujit Choudhry was in Kiev, Ukraine July of 2017 with several other experts attempting to help Ukraine with their failing government. Ukraines semi-presidential government has been struggling for two decades. Sujit Choudhry and the other experts were asked to meet in the capital to discuss the constitutional issues and provide options that could help. The meeting was held at the Center of Policy and Legal Reform and the International IDEA. International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization that actively supports democracy all over the world.

Mr. Choudhry stated that it is important to have these meeting with top experts and researchers on constitution discussing the executive powers. He believes the problems with Ukraines government is the weak political parties, the split of power between the Prime Minister and the President, and the legislatures electoral system.

Sujit Choudhry has lectured in several countries, also serving as advisor to many of them including Egypt, Libya, South Africa, Nepal, and Ukraine. Internationally recognised as an authority on constitutional law and politics, Mr. Choudhry has accumulated a wide range of research and field experience in his twenty years studying constitutional law.

His research is focused on issues such as transitioning away from violent conflict and towards peaceful democratic politics, decentralization, semi-presidentialism, language policies, bills of rights, constitution building, minority and group rights, and much more. Currently Sujit Choudhry is a professor at the Berkeley School of Law and the Director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions. As well as holding membership at IFIT or the International Advisory Council of the Institute for Integrated Transitions and ICON or the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Journal of Constitutional Law.

SUJIT CHOUDRY INDIA-AMERICAN DEAN

Sujit Choudhry was born in 1970 in New Delhi, India. He started his learning career at the University of Toronto Schools for his high school education. Later on, he joined the University of Mc Gill where he got a bachelor’s degree in biology. Being a brilliant student, Sujit Choudhry enrolled for BA in Law at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and subsequently earned an LL.B. from Harvard law school. His working career started in 1996 when he became a Law clerk to Chief Justice Antonio Lamer of the supreme court of Canada. In 1999 Sujit joined the faculty of the University of Toronto as an Assistant professor. He got his tenure in 2004. At the moment he is the director of the famous Centre of Constitution Transitions.

Sujit served as the Cecelia Goetz law professor at the New York University School of law where he served as the faculty director of Global fellows program. Being a top performer, he was named the Dean of the University of California Berkeley’s Law School that made him the first Indian-American Dean. Sujit is arguably a distinguished law professor. He has been hired as a constitutional expert to help countries in the constitution building process in the following countries; Egypt, Ukraine, Nepal, South Africa, Libya, Jordan, Sri Lanka and Tunisia. He has made himself a name globally and referred by his friends and Co-workers as the Law Expert. Apart from being a distinguished scholar, the father of two is also a well-renowned Author. Most of his works are internationally recognized.He wrote a lot of journals and books.
